Season Finale Preparation
Objective: Players execute technical skills with precision under maximum competitive pressure in preparation for the season finale.
Outcomes

- ✓Players can apply set-piece and game-model principles without any coach prompting
- ✓Players demonstrate full readiness to compete in the season finale

Run of show
1. Activation & 11+ Warm-Up
15mSet up: Full team, player-led 11+ with an elected session captain who runs the entirety of the warm-up.
How to run it: Session captain leads full 11+ at match-day energy: faster jogging, more explosive lateral bounds, full Nordic lower volume. After 11+, captain leads a 2-minute team sharpening game: two-touch 4v4 in a 15×15 yd grid where any slow or imprecise touch ends the player's possession and they swap to defending. Fastest team wins.
- ›Two-touch rule: first touch to control, second touch to pass – no exceptions
- ›Sharpening game creates match-edge anxiety in a safe environment
- ›Session captain: model the intensity you want from everyone

15mSet up: Three stations based on position: (1) GK + CBs play-out reps, (2) pivot + CM combination, (3) wingers and strikers finishing under pressure.
How to run it: Each station runs 8 precision reps at full pace. Station 1: play-out under a two-player press – target is 7/8 successful progressions. Station 2: combination ending in a shot – target is 6/8 on target. Station 3: winger cross and striker finish – target is 5/8 on target. Track completions and announce vs. target.
- ›Tracking performance against a target creates match-level accountability
- ›Any station below target: run two additional reps immediately, not in the next session
- ›Success rate targets are realistic – below 50% is a technical problem; 80%+ is match-ready

15mSet up: 45×30 yd pitch, two small goals, two teams of 7. Maximum two touches for every player, no exceptions.
How to run it: Two-touch possession game where any three-touch possession ends immediately and is awarded as a turnover to the opposition. Points scored in the small goals. Coach calls turnovers aloud and records how many each team commits per 3-minute round. Target: fewer than 6 turnovers per team per round.
- ›Two-touch restriction replicates elite match tempo – everything must be pre-planned
- ›Move before the ball arrives: the first touch is positioned by your run, not corrected after receipt
- ›Below 6 turnovers: excellent; 6–10: acceptable; above 10: requires a reset

20mSet up: Full 65×45 yd pitch, 9v9, goalkeepers in. Full match-day intensity. Coach announces: 'Treat this as the finale.'
How to run it: Full 9v9 match played at maximum intensity. Coach makes no conditions. Both captains lead their teams fully. At 10 minutes, coach announces a random scenario (level/winning/losing) that both teams must adapt to for the final 10 minutes. No pauses or interventions.
- ›The absence of conditions tests whether the game model is truly internalised
- ›Scenario at 10 minutes: observe the quality of the captains' communication
- ›Physical quality at 18–20 minutes reveals the true fitness level heading into the finale

15mSet up: Same pitch, free play.
How to run it: Open match. Coach walks the sideline silently and makes one personal positive statement to each player during the 15 minutes. These are pre-planned from the week 50 feedback cards.
- ›Pre-planned personal statements during play land differently than debrief praise
- ›Keep statements specific and quiet – between coach and player only

5mSet up: Circle cool-down.
How to run it: 90-second cool-down. Debrief: 'On a scale of 1–10, how ready are you for the season finale? Explain your number in one sentence.' Go around the full circle. Coach notes any number below 7 for individual conversation after the session.
- ›Self-assessed readiness is a valid data point – low numbers deserve a private conversation
- ›Preview session 2: final activation and mental preparation
