Run of show
1. Arrival Ball Mastery
8mSet up: Groups of four, one ball per group, 20×20 yd grid.
How to run it: Coach calls out any Q4 theme name: 'Width!', 'Switch!', 'Support!', 'Press!', 'Delay!', 'Counter!'. Players must immediately act it out as a group — spreading wide, switching the ball, pressing as a pair, etc. Six calls total.
- ›Every theme has a clear physical action — know what yours is.
- ›React together as a group — not individually.
- ›If you are unsure what a theme means, watch what your group does.

10mSet up: Half-pitch. 6v0 possession pattern: two wide, one deep, one advanced, two midfielders. Ball moves through all positions.
How to run it: 6v0 passing sequence that hits every position: deep → midfielder → wide → midfielder → switch → wide → cross → finish. Four reps each side. Coach names the theme at each stage as the ball moves.
- ›Every touch in this drill represents a concept from the quarter.
- ›Emphasise timing of runs, not just ball movement.
- ›Finish the sequence with a real effort — don't poke it in.

15mSet up: 5v4 (+keeper) on half-pitch. Every two minutes, coach calls a theme. The attacking team must execute a goal using that theme. Defenders stay live throughout.
How to run it: Round 1 (two min): width theme — goals must come from wide areas. Round 2: switch theme — goal must follow a switch of play. Round 3: support theme — goal must use a support pass before shooting.
- ›Adapt immediately to the new theme — the game does not stop.
- ›Defenders: know the theme too — it tells you where to defend.
- ›One theme flows into the next in real football.

15mSet up: 4v4 on 35×25 yd, two full goals. Teams earn one point per goal, plus one bonus theme point for each Q4 concept their goal clearly demonstrates.
How to run it: Coach observes and calls out themes after each goal: 'Switch, then cross, then first-time finish — three concepts in one goal!' Maximum of five theme points per goal.
- ›The best moves in football use multiple concepts at once.
- ›Don't force themes — let the game create them.
- ›Every player on the pitch contributes to a multi-theme goal.

17mSet up: 6v6 including keepers, 45×35 yd, two full goals.
How to run it: Free match, no constraints. This is a showcase of the quarter's learning. Coach observes only, making no interventions. Both teams play as independently as possible.
- ›This is your chance to show what you have learned — trust yourself.
- ›Make decisions, make mistakes, and learn from both.
- ›Play with confidence — every theme you know is a weapon.

5mSet up: Players in a circle.
How to run it: Group static stretches. Coach goes around the circle and asks each player to name one Q4 theme they feel most confident with and one they want to improve.
- ›Knowing your strengths and areas for growth is self-awareness.
- ›Bring your best version to next week's festival — your club is watching.
